Vanessa Hudgens picked up $12,000 worth of freebies at the Golden Globe awards "swag suites" over the weekend. The "High School Musical" actress was keen to pick up as many items as possible from the ceremony's sponsors and various parties, and at one point her assistant was seen carrying four bags crammed with goodies.

A source who was at an event held by U.S. TV show "Access Hollywood" told the New York Daily News newspaper: "Vanessa overtook the area and was careful to make sure she took something from every booth."

Among the items she picked were a one-year pass for herself and a friend to AMC Theatres, a BlackBerry Pearl phone, a coffee machine, a $4,000 diamond pendant, designer clutch bags and a year's membership at a gym.

The 20-year-old star was also heard talking about the "huge house" she has just bought, explaining to friends how excited she is to be moving in.

Legendary actor Clint Eastwood was less thrilled at the goodies on offer, insisting he had no intention of helping himself to any.

He said: "I don't want anything. I don't want any gifts. These companies are trying to advertise, and they figure it's low-cost advertising. They want to sell their product and help make the economy better, which is okay, but it's not for me."

British comedian Ricky Gervais was also unimpressed by the offerings.

He commented: "Sunglasses are the only things I can bear to take from these lounges. I'm kind of like Elton John that way."

For the third time in history, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association gave two dramatic acting trophies to the same person. Kate Winslet seemed more surprised that anybody by the honors, trying to thank the other nominees – Meryl Streep, Kristin Scott Thomas, and “who was that other one in the drama category? Yes, Angelina.” And there was another, Anne Hathaway.

She was clearly flabbergasted, in part because she entered the ceremony thinking she had no shot in either category and won them both – best actress for “Revolutionary Road” and best supporting actress for “The Reader.” Because the Academy Awards nominations are due tomorrow, neither film will likely benefit, but Ms. Winslet, different story. She made a little history, equaling the accomplishment of Sigourney Weaver, who won best actress for “Gorillas in the Mist” and best supporting actress for “Working Girl” in 1989, and Joan Plowright, who won best supporting actress for the movie “Enchanted April” and and the television miniseries “Stalin” in 1993.

In the interview room afterward, she elaborated on her surprise: “I thought Anne Hathaway was going to win hands down, no question about it.”

I really didn’t think i was going to win for ‘Revolutionary Road.’ I really, really didn’t,” adding, “It’s remarkable to have never won, and then to win two.”

Ms. Winslet, who has been frank about her desire for an Oscar this year, may have gotten a leg up on one at this years Globes.

Amrita Rao has sworn off short dresses after her Britney Spears (or Shamita Shetty, if you like) moment at the music release of her film Victory. Little Bo Peep uncrossed her legs and showed more than she intended.

Of course, then the Rao family got busy calling editors requesting them to not carry the photographs. Now if you see Ms Rao dressed from head-to-toe, you know why.

But she should reconsider those dowdy gowns that look like something straight out of a C-grade film set. And sweetie, if you must, try opting for a Valentino, Carolina Herrera or Donna Karan instead.

Spyware Process Detector is an anti-spyware tool that will detect all processes running on the computer and display their threat rating based on the intelligent analysis of all hidden properties. Another specialty of the program is its ability to detect a process that contains and executes alien code of another process. Almost every software application is driven by data access and data management-based code. This is most prevalent in business process-focused applications in which data-rich objects are the core of applications. An integral part of these data driven applications are the APIs used for data access and data manipulation. These APIs are what ultimately drive the features produced by the developer, the maintainability of the application, and the extensibility of the application.

The evolution of data access API has been a painfully iterative process focusing predominantly on how to deal with relational data in a more flexible manner. We have seen the rise and fall of ODBC, Microsoft® Jet, Data Access Objects (DAO) and Remote Data Objects (RDO), in addition to many non-Microsoft-based APIs. These APIs did not bridge the gap between object-based and semi-structured (XML) data programming needs, on the one hand, and the rigid world of normalized relational data, on the other. Combine this problem with the task of dealing with heterogeneous data stores, non-relational data like XML and applications operating across multiple languages and you have a tremendous opportunity for complete re-architecture.

Embracing similar challenges in the data access space, Microsoft has spent a great deal of time and effort redesigning the basic APIs that are used to build applications. The main deliverable from this process is the Microsoft .NET Framework. One of the primary design goals for the .NET Framework was to provide developers a more simplified and extensible development platform for distributed application development. In addition, the .NET Framework should be able to be used to build any type of application from the simplest console application to a completely distributed XML Web service driven application.

What is ADO.NET? From an architect's perspective ADO.NET represents the abstract design concepts used to build the data access classes within the .NET Framework. These classes will be reviewed later, but it is first important to understand why these classes were created and how they evolved from current data access APIs. There were several main design goals driving ADO.NET:

* Explicit and factored object model. ADO.NET is designed to be a simple to use object model in which the developer has complete control over how to control data source connectivity, command execution, and data manipulation.
* Disconnected data cache model. N-tier programming and XML Web service architecture require that applications can participate in a disconnected, loosely coupled manner. ADO.NET provides a comprehensive caching data model for marshalling data between applications or services and then to optimistically update the original data sources or source.
* XML support. XML is the key to building interoperable applications and more robust data processing models. XML support has been built directly into the .NET Framework. ADO.NET leverages this implementation by providing a seamless interaction with XML in a relational manner or in a native XML manner.
* Leverage existing ADO knowledge. Although the ADO.NET object model is different from the existing ADO model, the basic constructs are the same. The ADO.NET object model consists of a provider, connection, and command objects. Thus current ADO developers should be able to efficiently migrate to ADO.NET.

From a developer's perspective ADO.NET represents the concrete implementation of classes inside the .NET Framework used for data access. The following section reviews the overall physical architecture and hierarchy of the classes.

Architecture

The ADO.NET architecture can be divided into two logical pieces: command execution and caching. Command execution requires features like connectivity, execution, and reading of results. These features are enabled with .NET data providers. Caching of results is handled by the DataSet.

The provider enables connectivity and command execution to underlying data sources. Note that these data sources do not have to be relational databases. Once a command has been executed the results can be read using a DataReader. A DataReader provides efficient forward-only stream level access to the results. In addition, results can be used to render a DataSet a DataAdapter. This is typically called "filling the DataSet."

The DataSet object represents a disconnected cache of data. This cache is made up of DataTables and DataRelations that represent the results of the command. The DataSet tracks changes to the underlying data in the cache. Changes can be submitted back to the original data source by using the DataAdapter and applicable Insert, Update, or Delete commands. The DataSet also provides a direct XML view of the underlying data in the cache. This XML can be manipulated with XML standards like XPath and XSLT.

In addition to being filled through a .NET data provider, the DataSet can also be filled with raw XML data simply by loading it from a file or XML Document. Further details about the XML integration within ADO.NET appear later in this document.

The .NET provider objects are provider-specific. The above objects (Connection, Command, DataAdapter, DataReader) are abstract representations that each provider developer could implement. Thus there will be separate Connection, Command, DataReader, and DataAdapter implementations for each data source. This is much different from the existing ADO model in which OLE DB providers integrate into the common ADO connection, Command, and Recordset objects. This approach was taken in order to let the .NET data provider implementer take full advantage of the underlying features of the data source. This removes several layers of abstraction inherent in the OLE DB provider model, and so improves performance and simplifies the object model.

XY 7.20 released

XYplorer 7.20 has been released on 09-Jun-2008. Here's a quick introduction to the main new features:
Support for editing Unicode filenames. Finally, XYplorer supports inline renaming for filenames containing non-ANSI Unicode characters.

Warp speed through new "treeless browsing". Ever since, the Tree shows basically the same path as the Window Title, the Address Bar and the File List: If you change the current path by any of the numerous ways available in XYplorer, the Tree is automatically adjusted to the new location. Even, if you don't really need that service... The new toggle "Auto-Synchronize Tree" allows you to turn off the Tree temporarily. Here are some of the reasons for doing this:

(1) It offers a uniform maximum browsing speed that's totally independent of the nesting depth of the target locations. For example, if you quickly need to check size and version of a particular system file, it is totally pointless to expand the tree down to system32, because all you need is a quick glance at that file in the file list. Or, if you have a script that needs to visit some location -- why should the tree get busy here?

(2) It keeps the Tree in a stable state and position while browsing. For example, this can be valuable when collecting stuff from various locations via drag drop into a couple of target folders -- no need to scroll the tree anymore: The Tree just sits there and waits.

(3) It makes consequent use of XYplorer's many ways of going to a new place: Address Bar, Tabs, Catalog, Favorites, History, Hotlist, Breadcrumb, GoTo, UDCs, Scripts, etc. ... they all work flawlessly without the Tree, and if you just need to go somewhere to work with certain items, you may well be completely uninterested in their position in the file system -- no need for a Tree to show you.
