The first photo from the sequel to the 2008 blockbuster Iron Man has been released, depicting Robert Downey Jr. mixing it up in the lab as industrialist-turned-dogooder Tony Stark.

According to director Jon Favreau, Stark—rather than his armored alter-ego—will be playing a more pivotal role in Iron Man 2, which opens May 7, 2010.

The sequel takes place six months after Stark reveals his identity as Iron Man, leading to some interesting quandaries, Favreau tells USA Today. "How many superheroes are open about their true identities?" Favreau offers. "We wanted to play with that idea. But it obviously has consequences—in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore."
