What makes Katrina score with the audience? If one were to analyze it in a historical perspective in each generation of the female actors, there was an actor who had a westernized look or an orientation, which made her stand apart from the crowd. It all had started in a subtle manner with Simi reached its growth face with Saira Banu, blossomed with Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi and then had a short stint with Dimple Kapadia. After that there were stars who had their western looks or who tried to carve a place for themselves in this slot, but were not successful at all and the slot remained virtually vacant till the advent of Katrina Kaif.
The Indian audience also has a fixation for the female star having western looks and Katrina Kaif fills the requirements to the boot. Coupled with it is the fact that most of the roles that she has done so far in one way or the other have been those where she has either played the role of a foreign returned girl, or a lady staying in foreign country. Associated glamour related to this aspect also has been a lucky quotient for Katrina in her career so far.
The real challenge for Katrina Kaif would indeed be when Prakash Jha's film RAJNITI hits the screen, as for Katrina Kaif it is going to be the film that would test her for her ability to execute a role that is seeped more in the rural or semi-urban nuances, in contrast to her upper class roles that she has executed so far. However, the manner in which she has enacted various roles in her career so far, RAJNITI should not be a tough challenge for her.
